Award-Winning Artists

Painting en plein air is simply the act of painting outdoors. Due to the picturesque lakeshores and quaint towns that characterize Door County in Wisconsin, the tradition of summer periods dedicated to en plein air painting in this region has been ongoing since the 1920s. On an annual basis, the Peninsula School of Art keeps this tradition alive by hosting the Door County En Plein Air Festival each July and honors between thirty and thirty-five artists with an invitation to participate. This year, three artists featured at Lily Pad Gallery West, Shelby Keefe, Marc Anderson, and Antwan Ramar, were among those selected for the festival, which took place from July 21 through July 27. Pieces produced en plein air at the festival by Keefe, Anderson, and Ramar all received special honors. Specifically, Shelby Keefe’s Hillside Dairy Farm received first place, Antwan Ramar received an honorable mention for Painted en Plein Derry-Aire, and Marc Anderson’s entire body of work was selected as the Artist’s Choice. These works, as well as additional pieces painted this year, can currently be viewed at the Peninsula School of Art’s website. We would like to express our congratulations to all of the winners and reiterate how lucky we are to have Keefe, Ramar, and Anderson’s work in Lily Pad Gallery’s collection.
