Lisa Noonis starts every painting with the open mindedness of an explorer. Though she doesn't fully know where any given piece will land, she is certain that if she shows up to work every day, it will arrive at its destination. Ultimately, the process or act of creating is as important as the final outcome.
Noonis paints what she knows- figures, still lifes, and landscapes, though she pushes these "knowns" into abstract places. Noonis combines her love of color, form, line and design without fully abandoning representation.
Noonis works in a constant state of experimentation and discovery. Using materials ranging from oils, acrylic, and latex, to graphite, oil pastels, and collage, Noonis is able to have the freedom to work expressively and without hesitation. She often works on large sheets of canvas or paper on the walls, sometimes using tools like extension poles, squeegees and oversized paintbrushes.
As a self-taught painter, artistic growth is critical to Noonis. While transformation is a challenge on many levels, it forces her to go beyond what she thinks she knows, feeding her curious nature.
