A well-known still life tradition of the 17th-century Dutch masters, vanitas uses symbolism as reminders of mortality. In contrast, the artists of “Vanitas: Contemporary Florals” reinvent this tradition through an optimistic lens, allowing the beauty of a blossom and the hope of Spring’s rebirth to act as symbols of life’s resilience. We invite you to join us as we celebrate this promise of new life.
In addition to this exhibition, we are proud to host our first living art event over Gallery Night MKE weekend. We have partnered with local florists to create sculptural renditions of a series of works from our collection. Join us for an opening reception and to vote on your favorite floral creation! Participating florists include Alt’s, Bayside Floral Design, Belle Fiori, La Tulipe, and The Pink Peony.
