Artist of the Week 71 | Ronald Tinney

Ronald Tinney

Ronald Tinney’s widely collected and admired coastal landscapes of Cape Cod breathe constant life into the wonder and serenity of the ocean. Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Tinney now lives year-round on the Cape. He has studied extensively with noted marine artists such as Donald Demers, and Joseph McGurl.

Ronald Tinney | Quiet Color | Oil | 15 x 30"

Ron paints exclusively in oils and focuses on coastal landscapes and marine scenes. He paints on location “en plein air,” year-round, studying nature and creating source material for his larger studio oil paintings. With his supreme talent and unmatched eye for capturing changing light and flickering waves, each of Tinney's paintings is a relaxing world of breeze and sun. A lone sailboat on a clear day, a quiet, twilight marsh. Tinney's works encapsulate the best of Cape Cod's natural scenes.

He has had paintings juried into shows at the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport, the Ventura Maritime Museum in California; the Coos Maritime Museum in Oregon; and the Oil Painters of America National show in New Mexico.  He has had one person shows at the Cape Museum of Fine Art, Cahoon Museum of American Art and the Guild of Boston Artists.
